Reverse description The reverse composition centres on Malaysia's infrastructure and technological development, with a vignette of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport terminal set against the Petronas Twin Towers. An underlying geographical map of the region carries symbolic markers denoting Putrajaya and Cyberjaya as the twin pillars of the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC Malaysia). Guilloche underprinting and ornamental borders unify the composition within the dominant colour scheme of the series.

Malaysia's shift to polymer for the 5 Ringgit denomination came as part of a broader regional push in the late 1990s, with Note Printing Australia — the primary commercial polymer substrate printer globally — handling production. The timing was deliberate: the 1997–98 Asian financial crisis had made the Malaysian government unusually attentive to counterfeit risk, and polymer offered a significantly harder target than the cotton-paper notes it replaced.

P#47 is a long-running type, first issued in 1998 and still current in 2004. Watermark security on polymer is achieved through clear window technology rather than the density variation used in paper — a technical distinction that occasionally confuses authentication.
