Wartime issue, printed in India under emergency arrangements as the Seychelles — then a British Crown Colony — could not reliably source notes through normal channels with the Indian Ocean under active threat. The Government of Seychelles series from this period was produced at the Security Printing Press in Nasik Road, a facility otherwise occupied with British Indian military currency demands.
Pick 5A is distinguished from the related 5B by its signature combination. Surviving examples are genuinely uncommon; the small colonial population meant print runs were modest, and tropical storage conditions in the islands were hard on paper stock.
