Aanvullende informatie

Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 following the collapse of the Siad Barre regime, but has never received formal recognition from any United Nations member state. The Bank of Somaliland nonetheless issued its own coinage beginning in the mid-1990s, a practical assertion of administrative autonomy that functioned locally despite having no standing in international currency markets. These aluminium pieces circulated within Somaliland alongside older Somali shilling coins and a largely cash-dependent informal economy.
