Obverse description The obverse is dominated by a central vignette of a man on a donkey, rendered in fine intaglio engraving. To the upper left appears a cherub vignette, while a portrait of a young woman occupies the lower right corner; the numeral '5' appears in guilloche-work panels at left and right. The bank title 'EL BANCO NACIONAL DEL PERÚ' runs across the top, with the denomination 'CINCO SOLES' inscribed in bold letterpress across the centre field.

Reverse description The reverse is printed in dark blue-black on light paper, with an ornate guilloche border framing the entire design. A central oval vignette contains an architectural or landscape scene, surrounded by elaborate lathe-work rosettes bearing the numeral '5' at left and right.
