The Banco Central del Ecuador relied on the American Bank Note Company for most of its mid-century issues, and this long-running series reflects that relationship — P#100 was printed continuously across nearly two decades, which means the design itself outlasted several significant political transitions in Quito without modification. ABNC plates of this period were engineered for longevity, and the consistency between early 1956 examples and late 1973 printings is often striking.
Serial number prefix changes across the print run are the most reliable way to distinguish early from late issues within the series.
