Surrounding vignettes illustrate Indonesia's development achievements over 25 years, including architectural landmarks, agricultural scenes, urban infrastructure, and industrial facilities, with a small scene of Soeharto addressing a group at right centre. The Garuda emblem appears in the upper right corner, with the Bank Indonesia cipher 'B' monogram at lower left. |

Engraved by Mujirun, one of the few Indonesian-trained intaglio engravers to receive formal credit in the catalog record — Perum Peruri had been building domestic engraving capacity since the early 1970s, largely to reduce dependence on foreign security printers like De La Rue and Giesecke & Devrient. This note sits within that longer project of technical self-sufficiency.
The 1995–1998 date range is significant: Indonesia's financial system collapsed under the weight of the 1997–98 Asian financial crisis, and high-denomination notes like this one became functionally inadequate almost overnight as the rupiah lost roughly 85% of its value against the dollar. Hoarding of physical currency spiked sharply during the unrest of May 1998.
