Aanvullende informatie

The Philippine peso coinage of the Spanish colonial period was minted in Madrid, and pattern issues like this one were produced to evaluate proposed designs or compositions before authorizing full production runs. Whether this brass striking was a serious compositional trial or simply a reference piece for the Manila treasury is unclear — brass patterns of this type rarely made it past the cabinet of the mint director.

Alfonso XII had only regained the Spanish throne in 1875 following the Bourbon Restoration, and currency reform across the colonial territories was an active administrative concern throughout his reign.
