Namibia's coinage has been issued by the Bank of Namibia since independence in 1990, making it one of the younger national currency series on the continent. The dollar replaced the South African rand at par, though the rand remains legal tender in Namibia to this day — an arrangement that has persisted for over three decades without formal resolution.
