Kurdistan has never achieved recognized statehood, and no official Kurdish monetary authority exists — this piece is a fantasy issue, produced for the collector market rather than for any actual circulation. The X# prefix in Krause's catalog designates it explicitly as such. These were struck privately, almost certainly outside the region itself, as political sympathizer items during a period when Kurdish autonomy in northern Iraq was expanding following the 2003 invasion but remained constitutionally unresolved.
