Trial pieces for Jordanian commemoratives were typically struck in lead to test die alignment and relief depth before committing to precious metal production runs. This 1996 issue marks the fiftieth anniversary of Jordanian independence from the British Mandate, formally recognized on May 25, 1946. Lead trials rarely entered any official record and survive largely through mint worker disposition — their transmission to collectors is almost entirely informal.
