Andorra had no formal mint of its own and no coinage tradition to speak of when these pieces were produced in the 1960s — they were struck by the Paris Mint under arrangement, timed squarely at the collector market rather than any domestic monetary need. The Napoleonic subject was chosen not for any genuine historical connection between Napoleon and Andorra, but because French-influenced prestige themes sold.
