The Bahamas issued this note as part of a complete series redesign timed to coincide with the millennium, replacing the previous high-value issues that had been in circulation since the mid-1990s. Thomas De La Rue's involvement goes back to the earliest independent Bahamian currency; the relationship between the two predates even the Central Bank's establishment in 1974, when the Bahamas Monetary Authority's earlier notes were already coming off De La Rue presses.
The $50 denomination has always seen limited transactional use in the Bahamas — the tourism-heavy economy runs heavily on smaller denominations and foreign card payments — so genuine circulation wear on this note is less common than the print run alone would suggest.
