Pitcairn has no indigenous banking infrastructure and no formal currency of its own — the island uses New Zealand dollars in daily life, making this 50 Dollar note a collector issue pure and simple. It was never intended for circulation among Pitcairn's population, which at the time of issue numbered fewer than fifty people.

Gabris, a Slovak designer and engraver who has produced fantasy and semi-official notes for a number of small or dependent territories, handled both design and engraving here — an unusual consolidation of roles that reflects the boutique nature of the commission rather than any institutional printing house involvement.
