Obverse description The obverse displays the official seal of the Republic of the Marshall Islands at center, depicting a frigate bird in flight above a traditional Marshallese outrigger canoe on the sea, with a rising sun emitting stylized rays in the upper field, flanked by a dirigible airship to the left and a fishing net to the right. Palm trees and a distant tower appear along the shoreline in the middle ground. The denomination $50 appears to the left and the year 1989 to the right within the inner border.
