Obverse description Red on multicolour underprint. Intaglio portrait of Francisco de Oliveira Chamiço at left, the Portuguese Coat of Arms at lower centre, and the bank seal at right. Two overprinted red inscriptions reading "S. TOMÉ e PRÍNCIPE" appear on the face, with the denomination "CINCOENTA ESCUDOS" and issuing decree details rendered in letterpress.

Reverse description Red on orange and green multicolour guilloche underprint. A central oval vignette, encircled by the bank name "BANCO NACIONAL ULTRAMARINO", encloses an allegorical female figure seated at left with a sailing ship in the background. Denomination numerals "50" appear in large intaglio print on either side of the central vignette, with elaborate lathe-work rosettes and scrollwork filling the corners.
