Reverse description The reverse is executed on a salmon-pink guilloche underprint with scrollwork border and solid black "50" roundels at each corner. A large dotted oval frame at centre encloses the bold numeral "50", flanked by two columns of calligraphic Romanian text identifying the issuing treasury, the two-month redemption obligation, the place name "Timișoara", and the date "1 Decembrie 1919". The denomination legend "FILERI" is set in large gothic letterpress across the lower margin.

Comments

Issued in 1919 during the chaotic interregnum following the collapse of Austria-Hungary, this note represents a hyperlocal solution to an acute small-change shortage. The Hungarian fillér coinage had effectively vanished from circulation, and municipal authorities across the former empire improvised emergency paper substitutes — Timișoara's city treasury among them. The denomination is spelled "Fileri," a Romanian phonetic adaptation of the Hungarian "fillér," which itself reflects the city's transitional status: claimed by Romania in November 1918 but not formally assigned by the Paris Peace Conference until 1920.

Lith. Csendes was a local Timișoara printing firm, making this genuinely a product of the city it served.
