The Bahrain Monetary Agency was established in 1973, shortly after independence, to manage currency issuance independent of the regional sterling-zone arrangements that had previously governed Gulf monetary policy. This series bridges the reigns of two emirs — Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, who died in 1999, and his son Hamad — with the coin design carrying over essentially unchanged across the transition, a deliberate signal of dynastic continuity rather than a new monetary identity.
