The Banque Centrale de la République de Guinée issued this series following the country's acrimonious break from the West African franc zone — Guinea under Sékou Touré had already pioneered that rupture in 1960, and by 1985 the domestic currency had been through successive devaluations and redenominations that left the earlier syli series largely discredited. The 1985 francs were an attempt to restore basic confidence in paper after years of monetary disorder.
The print date of 30 April 1945 in the catalog data is almost certainly a data entry error and should not be taken as the actual printing date.
