Beschrijving voorzijde Central to the obverse is the national emblem of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, featuring That Luang stupa set against a stylized landscape with converging pathways, flanked by paddy fields and framed above by a wreath of leaves and ribbons. A scroll at the base bears the country's name in Lao script. The circular legend reads 'THE LAO PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC' in Latin characters along the upper periphery, with the Lao-script name inscribed on either side of the emblem. The denomination '50 KIP' appears in the lower field.

Laos issued a wave of silver commemoratives throughout the 1990s almost exclusively for the export collector market — few if any entered circulation domestically. This piece, tied to the 1996 Atlanta Games, was produced under the kind of licensing arrangement that flooded international coin fairs of that decade with near-identical Olympic issues from dozens of issuing states, most with no meaningful connection to the Games themselves.
