Albín Brunovský was one of the most distinguished graphic artists in Slovak history, better known for his intricate fantasy printmaking than for banknote work — making his involvement in this series an unusual crossover. The 1987 50 Korun was part of a broader reissue effort by Štátna Banka Československá to refresh the korun series with distinctly Slovak cultural imagery, a politically loaded choice in a federation where questions of Czech-Slovak parity were never fully settled.
Brunovský's designs were engraved by two different craftsmen across the two faces — Fajt on the obverse, Škarban on the reverse — a split that was standard practice at Státní Tiskárna Cenin but occasionally produces subtle tonal inconsistencies between sides on the same note.
