Turkey contracted the American Bank Note Company for several of its mid-century series, and this 1947 note belongs to a period of particular monetary pressure: the country was emerging from wartime non-belligerence — a stance that required maintaining a large standing army — leaving the treasury severely strained and inflation a persistent concern throughout the late 1940s.

ABNCo's engraved intaglio work on Turkish commissions from this period is generally clean and consistent. The single watermark is the note's only mechanical security feature, which was not unusual for the denomination at that time but left the series vulnerable to sophisticated forgery.
