Bradbury Wilkinson produced a long run of Turkish issues through the mid-century, and this note is distinguished within the series by its red reverse — a deliberate change from the earlier blue-reverse variant of the same Pick series, made during a period when Turkey was cycling through design amendments without issuing entirely new types. The distinction matters for collectors because the two are catalogued separately, yet they circulated concurrently and look nearly identical at a glance.
Turkey's 1950s monetary environment was marked by chronic inflation and repeated devaluations tied to the Democrat Party government's aggressive industrialization spending. High-denomination paper saw heavy circulation and significant wear as a result.
