Nakhchivan occupies a peculiar constitutional position — an autonomous republic of Azerbaijan with no shared border with Azerbaijan proper, physically separated by Armenian territory. Whether that administrative distinctiveness justifies a separate coinage program is debatable; these pieces circulate nowhere and exist almost entirely for the collector market.
