Bradbury Wilkinson produced this note for the Banco Nacional Ultramarino at a moment when the institution was managing currency across a sprawling set of Portuguese overseas territories simultaneously — the same press runs often supplied multiple colonies with closely related designs, differentiated mainly by overprint or text. Knowing which territory this 50 Mil Reis was issued for matters considerably for attribution, and the catalog entry should be cross-referenced against the issuing territory field before any valuation is applied.
1908 falls within the final years of the Portuguese monarchy; the Republic would arrive in October 1910, after which BNU's operating mandates and note designs were substantially revised.
