Opmerkingen

The 50 New Lira was introduced as part of the January 2005 redenomination that erased six zeros from the Turkish lira — one of the largest redenomination operations in monetary history, reducing 50,000,000 old lira to a single 50 New Lira note. The "New" prefix was always intended as temporary, and the parallel "Yeni Türk Lirası" designation was officially retired at the start of 2009 when the series was replaced.

The Ankara banknote printing works has produced Turkish currency in-house since the mid-1950s, and this series marked its first full deployment of domestically produced notes at the new denomination scale.
