The large numeral '50' appears in bold intaglio at centre right, with the transparent polymer security window at far right bearing the open-book motif mirroring the obverse. Geometric and arabesque patterning fills the background across the full width of the note.

Opmerkingen

Mauritania's switch to polymer for this series marked a significant logistical bet in a country where heat, sand, and humidity accelerate the destruction of cotton-fiber notes far faster than in temperate climates — the Saharan and Sahelian conditions that cover most of the country's territory are among the most punishing on earth for paper currency. Guardian® substrate, produced by CCL Secure, was a practical answer to a real problem.

Giesecke+Devrient's Leipzig facility has handled Mauritanian production across multiple series. P#22 is the 50 Ouguiya denomination within the 2017 polymer issue, which updated a currency first introduced in 1973 when Mauritania exited the West African CFA franc zone.
