Opmerkingen

The Jason Islands are a small group of uninhabited islets off the northwest coast of West Falkland, privately leased and managed as a nature reserve by the British ornithologist and flamingo breeder Len Hill from the 1970s. Hill had a well-documented habit of issuing his own local stamps and notes — partly as collectibles, partly as a genuine expression of administrative autonomy over his leased territory. These notes were never legal tender in any conventional sense and saw no meaningful circulation.

The penguin species chosen was deliberate: the Jasons hold one of the largest Rockhopper colonies in the Falklands, but the Humboldt attribution is a curiosity — Humboldt Penguins are a Pacific coast species, not present on the Jasons at all.
