| Obverse description | Right-facing draped bust of Kwame Nkrumah occupying the central field, modeled in high relief by sculptor Cecil Thomas, whose initials 'C.T.' appear incuse below the truncation. Ghana's 1965 coinage series was issued under Kwame Nkrumah's government in the final months before his overthrow in the February 1966 coup. Many pieces from this series were withdrawn and melted following the military takeover, as the new National Liberation Council moved quickly to erase Nkrumah's iconography from circulation. Survivors that did circulate accumulated wear fast in a cash-dependent economy with little banking infrastructure outside Accra.
KM#11 is the highest-denomination coin in the 1965 series.
