Sudan's Currency Board was a transitional body, established at independence in 1956 to replace the Egyptian pound with the new Sudanese pound — this 50 piastres note belongs to the first series ever issued by an independent Sudanese monetary authority. De La Rue handled the printing, as they did for a substantial share of newly independent African states in this period, the colonial-era banking infrastructure still very much shaping the mechanics of decolonization.
The P#2B designation distinguishes it from the P#2A by a signature change, reflecting the brief but turbulent succession of board officials in Sudan's earliest post-independence years.
