| 正面描述 | The arms of the Republic of the Philippines occupy the central field, featuring a quartered shield with a sun and stars above, an American eagle at lower left, and a lion at lower right, all rendered in fine relief. A scroll beneath the shield bears the motto ISANG BANSA ISANG DIWA (One Nation, One Spirit). The circumferential legend REPUBLIKA NG PILIPINAS arcs along the upper rim, while the denomination 50 PISO appears in large characters along the lower rim. Two five-pointed stars flank the denomination at the base, and a beaded border frames the entire design. |

Issued to mark the 40th anniversary of the Fall of Bataan and Corregidor in April 1942, when roughly 76,000 Filipino and American troops surrendered to Japanese forces in the largest capitulation in American military history. What followed — the Bataan Death March — claimed thousands of lives before survivors reached Camp O'Donnell.
The Marcos government's use of this event for a commemorative issue carried obvious political overtones, positioning the regime as custodian of wartime sacrifice during a period of martial law that had been in force since 1972.
