Syria's 50 Pound notes of this period were issued under the Ba'athist government that had consolidated power following the 1963 coup, a time when the Central Bank was actively expanding domestic currency supply to fund nationalization programs and state infrastructure. The series ran across nearly a decade, which means significant variation exists in paper quality and print consistency between early and late printings — something the Pick number alone doesn't capture.
Watermark-only security was already conservative for the period, reflecting limited access to more sophisticated anti-counterfeiting technology rather than any deliberate policy choice.
