正面描述 A large central vignette of a stylised sunflower in golden-orange and brown tones dominates the face, set against a light blue guilloche underprint with wave patterns. To the left, an intaglio vignette of a bird-of-paradise appears within a decorative cartouche, while the denomination '50' is repeated at the corners and the value 'LIMA PULUH RUPIAH' appears in a panel to the right. The date 'DJAKARTA, 1 DJANUARI 1959' and two manuscript signatures above the titles 'GUBERNUR' and 'DIREKTUR' are printed below centre, with the printer's imprint at the foot.

备注

The 1959 Indonesian series, of which this note is part, was issued following the government's controversial "Sanering" monetary reform of 1959 — a deliberate devaluation policy under Sukarno that cut the value of larger-denomination notes to 10% of face value and froze bank accounts above certain limits. The 50 Rupiah denomination sat below the threshold of the harshest restrictions, which shaped how these notes actually moved through the economy.

Thomas De La Rue's contract for Indonesian currency during this period reflects Jakarta's continued reliance on established European security printers despite the country's strongly nationalist political posture at the time — a practical compromise that outlasted the rhetoric.
