Reverse description A finely detailed high-relief representation of a Brontosaurus occupies the central field, depicted in a three-quarter rear view with the head turned to the left, the long neck arching gracefully upward toward the upper field. The species name BRONTOSAURUS is inscribed in the lower central field immediately above the denomination D 500, both rendered in bold upright Latin lettering. The encircling legend PRESERVE PLANET EARTH arcs around the upper and lateral periphery of the coin, referencing the environmental conservation theme of the series.

Additional information

Bosnia and Herzegovina issued this coin in 1993 while the country was actively at war — the siege of Sarajevo was in its second year and the Bosnian dinar itself was collapsing under wartime inflation. The "Brontosaurus" nickname comes from collector communities and reflects the coin's outsized ambiguity: a newly independent state minting copper-nickel pieces during a humanitarian catastrophe, partly to assert institutional existence as much as any practical monetary function.

The denomination itself became worthless almost immediately after striking.
