Zimbabwe's P10 500 Dollar note arrived just as the land redistribution program was accelerating the collapse of the formal economy. The Reserve Bank was still issuing notes that looked broadly credible — the hyperinflationary denominations that would make Zimbabwe notorious were still years away — but inflation was already eroding purchasing power fast enough that this denomination, substantial on paper, lost practical value quickly in daily use.

The 2001 series is notably sparse in security features by regional standards, relying on a watermark alone at a moment when counterfeiting pressure on Zimbabwean currency was rising.
