The Bank of Guyana's 500 Dollar denomination was introduced as the highest value in the series, reflecting the inflationary pressure that had eroded purchasing power through the late 1980s and early 1990s — a period during which Guyana underwent painful IMF-backed structural adjustment that effectively devalued the Guyanese dollar against regional currencies. De La Rue's involvement with Guyanese currency dates back to independence-era issues, and the relationship remained unbroken through successive redesigns.

P#32 is a relatively short-lived type, superseded as higher denominations became practical necessities.
