The Banque Centrale du Congo has issued successive date varieties of this denomination with little structural change, reflecting a policy of continuity over redesign. Giesecke & Devrient, the Munich-based security printer, has supplied much of the DRC's circulating currency since the post-Mobutu monetary reconstruction, when the country needed to rebuild credible note production infrastructure quickly and lacked domestic capacity to do so.
The suffix letter progression — P#96A through 96D — tracks date updates across the series, not design changes. The 96D is the most recent and most available variety.
