The 500 Korún note of 1973 was among the higher-denomination issues circulating in normalized Czechoslovakia, a period when the state kept a tight grip on currency policy following the suppression of the Prague Spring. Státní Tiskárna Cenin had handled domestic security printing since the early 1950s, and by this series the engraving work had settled into a competent but conservative house style — Jirka on the obverse, Ondráček on the reverse, both staff engravers whose collaboration appears across multiple denominations of this generation.

Watermarking remains the sole listed security feature, which reflects the period's relatively modest anti-counterfeiting standards by Western comparison.
