Norges Bank established its own printing works, the Seddeltrykkeri, in 1966 — a deliberate move away from reliance on foreign security printers. By the time this 500 Kroner was being produced, the Oslo facility had a decade of experience behind it, and the series reflects that confidence in domestic output.

The note spans two distinct signature combinations, the later Skånland & Sagård pairing reflecting Hermod Skånland's appointment as Central Bank Governor in 1985. Skånland would go on to steer Norwegian monetary policy through the turbulent banking crisis of the late 1980s, making his early signature appearances on pre-crisis notes a useful chronological marker for collectors working the modern Norwegian series.
