The "Falsch" designation here is the key detail — this is the contemporary East German counterfeit warning overprint, not a genuine circulating note. The Staatsbank der DDR issued these defaced specimens to train retail cashiers and bank staff to identify the 500 Mark note, with "FALSCH" (false) printed across the face to prevent any possibility of reintroduction into circulation. Training notes of this type were produced in small controlled quantities and were never intended to leave internal banking channels.
Survivor examples are uncommon precisely because they were treated as controlled materials, not collectibles.
