| Aanvullende informatie |
Mozambique's independence commemorative coinage has been issued sporadically since 1975, when FRELIMO's protracted armed struggle against Portuguese colonial rule concluded after a decade of guerrilla conflict and the political collapse of the Estado Novo regime in Lisbon following the 1974 Carnation Revolution. Portugal's sudden withdrawal left Mozambique with almost no trained administrative class — a vacuum that shaped the country's first decades of economic instability.
The .925 silver version designated KM#144a was produced alongside a base metal variant, a common dual-issue approach for Banco de Moçambique commemoratives targeting both the collector market and domestic circulation.
