| Obverse description | Orange and multicolour underprint with an intaglio portrait vignette of Ugyen Wangchuck, the first hereditary King of Bhutan, wearing the traditional raven crown, positioned to the right. The centre carries an elaborate guilloche panel enclosing two confronted dragon vignettes flanking a central cartouche with Dzongkha script, set against a peach and cream underprint with lattice patterning. The denomination numeral '500' appears in the lower right in red, with Dzongkha numerals at upper left, and series date below the central vignette. |

The issuer's name in English is inscribed at the top, with the denomination in English and Dzongkha script along the lower margin beneath the central vignette.
