| Reverse description | The reverse is engraved in a solid green intaglio scheme, with a central vignette of a steam locomotive at speed on a railway track, rendered in fine detail with visible smoke and a stone viaduct in the background. Large denomination numeral panels reading '500' in ornate guilloche work anchor the left and right sides. The inscriptions 'BANCO' and 'INTERNACIONAL DE GUATEMALA.' appear at top and bottom respectively, framing the locomotive scene within an elaborate lathe-work border. |

The Banco Internacional de Guatemala was one of several private commercial banks operating under Guatemala's pluralist banking system before the state moved to consolidate monetary authority. That system collapsed in 1926 when President Lázaro Chacón's government forced the liquidation of the private issuing banks and transferred their functions to the newly chartered Banco Central de Guatemala — which almost certainly explains the terminal date on this series.
A 500 Pesos denomination from a Guatemalan private bank is not a note that saw much counter use. At that face value, circulation would have been confined almost entirely to large commercial settlements and interbank transfers. Survivors in any condition are genuinely uncommon.
