| Opmerkingen |
The Banco de la República had relied on the American Bank Note Company for high-denomination printing through much of the mid-twentieth century, and this 500 Pesos Oro continues that relationship into the late 1960s. At the time of issue, 500 pesos represented a significant sum in Colombia — roughly equivalent to several weeks' wages for an urban worker — which kept this denomination largely out of everyday retail circulation and concentrated it in commercial and interbank transactions.
The watermark security was relatively modest for a note of this value, reflecting ABNC's standard approach for the series rather than any particular Colombian specification. Examples that did circulate tend to show wear concentrated along the vertical fold lines.
