Arching across the upper left in a bold diagonal black panel is the legend NATIONAL DAY, while the date NOVEMBER 30TH, 2021 curves along the upper right, flanked by a trident emblem at the apex. A ribbon scroll in the lower field carries the motto PRIDE AND INDUSTRY. The face value 55 DOLLARS is inscribed in two lines at the bottom of the field. A reeded border frames the entire composition. |

The denomination of 55 dollars was chosen to mark Barbados's 55th anniversary of independence from Britain in 1966, the same year the island simultaneously shed its status as a Commonwealth realm and became a republic — an event that generated considerable international attention and a wave of commemorative issues from the Central Bank.
