Issued by Narodowy Bank Polski to mark the 550th anniversary of the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus, this is a collector note rather than a circulating denomination — NBP has a long habit of issuing commemorative paper notes outside the regular series, sold directly to collectors and never intended for till use. The 550th anniversary fell in 2023, Copernicus having been born in Toruń on 19 February 1473.

Matej Gabris, a Slovak designer with substantial experience in European banknote and stamp design, handled the artwork. Security is limited to a watermark, appropriate for a note with no circulation function.
