The Khmer monetary system remains poorly understood, and tin-lead coinage of this type has been attributed to temple economies rather than state-directed circulation — used in ritual redistribution and priestly transactions rather than everyday commerce. Physical survival is heavily dependent on burial context, as the alloy is particularly vulnerable to corrosion in Southeast Asian soil conditions.
