The "money tree" — ต้นกัลปพฤกษ์ in the broader Theravada Buddhist tradition — is a ritual object constructed during the boun pha wet festival, where offerings are hung from bamboo branches to accumulate merit. Laos adopted the image partly as cultural patrimony and partly because the National Museum in Vientiane holds examples recovered from royal Lao ceremonial use.
