Obverse description Three horizontal bands of Persian calligraphic legend in nasta'liq script fill the coin's field, reading 'By the grace of God and the decree of fate / In circulation by the gold coin of Imam Reza / Struck at Tabriz 1161.' The legends are arranged in three registers across the flan, with the mint name and date occupying the lower register. The irregular flan and hammered technique are characteristic of late Afsharid provincial coinage.
