Murad I's akçe sits at the very foundation of Ottoman monetary infrastructure — these were among the first Ottoman coins struck with a fully developed imperial formula, establishing the mint-and-title format that would define Anatolian silver coinage for the next two centuries. Murad's reign saw the Ottoman state transform from a Bithynian frontier principality into a Balkan power, the revenues of which increasingly demanded a standardized silver currency capable of moving across newly conquered territories from Edirne to Thessaly.
The Artuk 1381 reference places this among the documented type series, though die variation across this reign is considerable given the number of active mints.
