The Elisyces were a pre-Roman people settled around the Narbonne coastal region of southern Gaul, and their coinage — including this type — was struck during a period of accelerating Roman encroachment that ultimately dissolved their political autonomy well before Caesar's campaigns made the question moot. The "As with bull" series reflects local Iberian and Greek monetary influences absorbed through generations of coastal trade, particularly through Emporion.
LT#2488 places this piece within Blanchet and de la Tour's foundational typology. Copper issues of this region circulated alongside Massalian bronzes and are frequently found in mixed hoards along the Via Domitia corridor.
